What does it take to scale embedded insurance?
In an interview with the Open & Embedded Insurance Observatory, Stephan Tan – bolttech’s CEO, EMEA and Group Chief Investment Officer – shares lessons from building embedded insurance partnerships with ING and BYD. Key themes from the conversation include:
- Protection should fit the customer journey: The opportunity is to make relevant protection easier to access through services and channels customers already know and trust.
- Partnerships need to work behind the scenes: Distributors, insurers and technology providers each bring different strengths. When they work together well, customers can access protection without having to navigate the complexity behind it.
- Scale starts with the first launch: Building for multiple markets from the outset means creating a shared foundation that can still adapt to local customer needs, regulations and insurance markets.
- Technology should solve real problems: The right starting point is the customer or partner need. Technology should remove complexity and support a smoother experience.
- AI and data could make protection more proactive: From more natural customer interactions to better insights into risk, these capabilities can help make insurance more relevant – provided governance, privacy and trust develop alongside them.
