Six AI trends reshaping insurtech
In a new byline on InsuranceAsia News, David Lynch – bolttech’s Group Chief Technology & Operations Officer – highlights six emerging AI trends redefining the insurance technology landscape. Key themes from his article include:
- Conversational commerce becomes the default:
AI-driven chat interfaces are replacing clicks, as customers increasingly engage in real-time conversations to discover and purchase insurance. - From SEO to GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation):
As consumers turn to AI assistants for answers, insurers must optimise content for AI-driven results – not just traditional search – to ensure their products appear in chatbot recommendations. - Rise of small language models:
Beyond giant, general-purpose AI, smaller specialised models trained on insurance data are delivering faster, more cost-efficient insights. This makes enterprise-scale AI adoption more feasible and sustainable. - Autonomous “robotic” operations:
Advanced AI is dramatically extending automation. Some systems can run complex tasks autonomously for 24+ hours, boosting productivity and transforming processes such as claims handling and customer service. - Emergence of agentic AI:
Powerful “frontier agents” – autonomous AI systems that can plan and act with minimal human input – are arriving. Major cloud platforms now enable organisations to build these agents, and bolttech already has hundreds in action, pointing to a future where every role has an AI co‑pilot. - Data-driven ecosystems:
Billions of connected devices (IoT sensors, smart cars, wearables and more) are generating vast data streams that fuel AI’s predictive capabilities. This connected data backbone helps insurers anticipate risk and provide proactive protection, while also enabling the creation of new coverage categories.
